Skater Experience Levels
There are 3 experience levels to consider when planning your skate park:
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
The users in your community will help to determine just the right amount and combination of events you will need in your skate park. The users of your skate park will typically include skateboarders, BMX bikers, in-line skaters and scooters of varying abilities. It is important that your park be able to accommodate all types and abilities.
Design your skate park to include separate areas for beginner to advanced experience levels to provide challenges to all the users as they develop their skills. The skate path between obstacles should provide a natural flow so as to help prevent collisions. Obstacle heights may also influence the experience level of the users of your park. Skate parks that are designed to accommodate beginner experience levels should not have obstacles with heights over 4 feet as these obstacles can pose a risk to inexperienced skaters. If beginner skaters will be utilizing your park, your design should also allow for basic boarding skills to be learned, such as how to slow down and stop properly. Many skateboarding injuries occur when obstacles are too high or too close for the level of experience of the skaters using the park.
