All our obstacles are constructed of 100% heavy duty steel.

SI skating surfaces have no wood or plastic, and no bolts or screws. We initially made wood structures, but discovered that they do not stand up to abuse and weather. Even 100% marine plywood with galvanized metal on all surfaces didn't last, because water would seep through the cracks and rot out the sub-floors. Wood and plastic products often crack and break, and they require screws that are a maintenance nightmare, requiring inspection and tightening on a regular basis. Screws can back out, heads snap off, and then kids get injured. If inspection is not performed, liability increases exponentially.
Concrete obstacles must be installed by qualified builders and an experienced crew, because mistakes made in concrete are expensive and permanent. Concrete will chip away and gouge with the use of trick pegs on bikes, and eventually become unsafe for skateboards and inline skates. Freeze/thaw cycles can also cause damage to concrete obstacles. There can be quite a bit of maintenance needed for concrete skate parks, and it can become very costly. Steel obstacles are less expensive and safer than concrete.
All our decks and transitions are 3/16" thick steel for maximum durability. Thinner 12 or 14 gauge steel will gouge and potentially deform over time due to heavy use and the trick pegs on bikes. All our obstacles are painted with V.O.C. compliant high gloss, heavy duty industrial enamel for durability. We also offer the smoothest riding surface available made with a proprietary formula ( ).
Steel is the strongest material and is long lasting. Steel parks can be reconfigured, are weatherproof, and very affordable.
Sk8parks International Mods are easy to install and require the least amount of maintenance of any skate ramp product you can purchase.
